The Humane Society provides companion animal sheltering and adoption services for Tacoma and Pierce County including Lakewood, Steilacoom, Dupont, Fircrest and University Place. Federal Way sheltering services begin July 1, 2010.The organization's mission is to advance the welfare of animals and to foster positive relationships between animals and people.The Humane Society is a private, non-profit organization formed in 1888 which utilizes private donations and fees for services to fund its vital programs. The Humane Society is not associated with any government agency, nor is it affiliated with any national animal welfare organization.Programs include adoption, community pet care fund & food bank, community cat trap-neuter-return project, semi-annual vaccine clinics, vouchers for subsidized pet spay-neuter and basic needs pet products.
