Dr. MacLellan was born in upstate New York, the fourth of five boys born in his family, and was raised in a rural farming community in western New Jersey. He attended Washington and Lee University in Lexington Virginia on an Army ROTC scholarship, and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Chemistry. Dr. MacLellan studied medicine at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda Maryland, and received an MD degree in 1988.Dr. MacLellan completed a Transitional Internship at William Beaumont Army Medical Center in 1989, and was assigned as a General Medical Officer ( general practioner ) in Gelnhausen, Germany. He saw combat service in the first Gulf War as a Brigade Surgeon assigned to the 3rd Armored Division in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Iraq. Dr. MacLellan received orthopaedic training in El Paso Texas at the combined William Beaumont AMC/Texas Tech University Orthopaedic Residency Training Program. His residency training included extensive trauma experience at R.E. Thomason General Hospital, a level one trauma center.After residency training, Dr. MacLellan was assigned as a staff orthopaedic surgeon at the 121st General Hospital in Seoul Korea. In 1997, he was reassigned to Martin Army Community Hopspital at Fort Benning Georgia, and served as the Chief, Orthopaedic Services, and Chief, Department of Surgery until 2004. Dr. MacLellan's military achievements and awards include Army Airborne and Flight Surgeon Wings, the Army Ranger tab, the Expert Field Medical Badge, the Army Commendation Medal, and the Meritorious Service Medal.Dr. MacLellan has more than 9 years experience practicing general orthopaedics, including sports medicine, reconstruction, trauma, and advanced arthroscopic surgery. Additionally, he has a special interest and extensive experience in Shoulder surgery. Dr. MacLellan is Board Certified in Orthopaedic Surgery, and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.Dr. MacLellan is married and has three sons. He enjoys outdoor activities including biking and hiking, and is an avid soccer fan.
