As friends since early childhood, Bill and Craig built and flew anything that could fly and some things that didn't fly. The list includes model airplanes, rockets, powered box kites, Jet-X powered paper planes ( not recommended ), the list goes on and on.As with all kids, money was hard to come by. Model kits were expensive and paper route money didn't go far. Then in 1965 a soggy balsa wood plank floated up onto a Long Island beach. Bill and Craig took the plank to"Pop's shop"where it was dried then sliced into sheets. Countless model airplanes were built from those sheets and the kit making seed was planted. The following years were filled with military obligations, marriages, jobs, and raising families. However, building and flying model airplanes remained an important part of their lives. In 1984 the kit making seed sprouted and Aero Craft was founded. Working part time in a basement and rented garage, the new company produced and marketed such kits as the Spirit, Aerosport, Recruit 64, Snapper, and the Apache. In 1995 Aero Craft moved to a"real"building and became a full time endeavor. The company continued to grow producing Aero Craft kits as well as kits for several other distribution companies, most notably Modelair-Tech and Hobby Lobby International. In 2000 Aero Craft acquired Eastern Model Supply. This improved the companies balsa milling capabilities as well as expanding Aero Craft's customer base to include educational and commercial users. The increase in volume resulted in the need to import balsa wood directly from South America.Aero Craft's current capabilities include the manufacture of balsa sheets, strips, and shapes as well as laser cutting, die cutting, and machine cutting of kit parts. Vacuum forming and wire part production are also done"in house".Future plans for Aero Craft include continuing to develop and produce models for the growing field of electric powered flight as well as updating and improving such famous designs as Hobby Lobby International's Telemaster series. We are also in the process of updating some of our older die cut kits to modern laser cut designs.
