Lewis and Clark National Forest encompasses an area of more than 1.5 million acres. The forest offers a variety of wood products, including mine timber, lumber, posts and poles. It serves as a habitat for various plant, animal, bird and fish species. Lewis and Clark National Forest maintains a location in Great Falls, Mont. The forest features more than 90 recreational sites, mountains, campgrounds and trailheads. It provides several recreational opportunities, such as hunting, skiing, snowboarding and snowmobiling. Established in 1897, Lewis and Clark National Forest provides various volunteer opportunities. The US Forest Service offers maps and brochures, as well as publishes a range of articles on wildlife-related issues. It is a part of the US Forest Service, which is an agency of the Department of Agriculture. The US Forest Service manages public land in more than 150 national forests and over 15 grasslands that encompass an area of nearly 190 million acres. The agency works in partnership with universities and nonprofit organizations worldwide.
