Chippewa National Forest

Established in 1908, Chippewa National Forest encompasses a more than 666,500-acre area. The forest features over 1,200 lakes and ponds, nearly 900 miles of rivers, and wetlands and watersheds. It offers various recreational opportunities, such as riding, hunting, fishing, backpacking, snowmobiling, hiking, bird watching and skiing. Chippewa National Forest is located in Cass Lake, Minn. The forest provides maps and brochures, as well as publishes a range of articles on wildlife-related issues. It additionally offers various volunteer opportunities and employs more than 150 people. Chippewa National Forest provides habitats for several species of fishes, animals and birds. The forest maintains resorts, recreational residences and archeological and historical sites. It is a part of the U.S. Forest Service, which is an agency of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
