The Homeless Prevention Council is a community based non-profit 501 ( c ) ( 3 ) organization working on a non-sectarian, non-discriminatory basis to help people at risk of losing their homes in the eight towns on the Lower and Outer Cape. We understand local needs, are privately funded, and are connected to a wide variety of services. We seek to provide a unique, long-term solution with professional case management to help families and individuals through difficult times. We will help to solve an immediate crisis, and will work with a client for as long as it takes, accessing as many resources as possible, to achieve stabilization. Listen to an interview with Chris Austin, Homeless Prevention Council Program Director, in a WOMR interview that aired on July 16, 2008 describing the activities of the Council. Name Change The Homeless Prevention Council was formerly the Interfaith Council for the Homeless of Lower Cape Cod. The name was changed to more accurately describe what the Council does. Community Outreach As an extension of our case management work, we have several Community Outreach Initiatives. Lower Cape Lunch ( LOCAL ) serves hot meals to all who come. Adopt-A-Family provides gifts for hundreds of needy families every Christmas. Backpacks-to-School send over 100 children to school each fall with the supplies they are required to have. The Outer Cape Office, our satellite office in Provincetown at the Soup Kitchen in Provincetown ( SKIP ), makes it easier for Outer Cape clients to meet with their case manager. Supporting Agencies The Council's case managers work with organizations such as the Housing Assistance Corporation, local housing authorities, Chatham Ecumenical Council for the Homeless, Harwich Ecumenical Council for the Homeless, Lower Cape Outreach Council, and St. Vincent DePaul societies to provide each client with the support they need to get through a crisis. Location Services are provided primarily from the HPC office at 14 Old Tote Road in Orleans. The phone number is 508-255-9667. Our satellite office is in the Provincetown United Methodist Church in Provincetown.
