The Pittsburg Police Department works to prevent, detect and investigate criminal activities through the enforcement of local, state, and federal laws and ordinances. It hosts a citizens police academy that provides various opportunities to citizens to participate in the department s operations. The department supports the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.), which is a classroom program that helps to prevent drug abuse and violence among children. The Pittsburg Police Department also conducts bike patrol, ride along and community oriented policing programs.
