AIT is the original provider of exclusive full time, full transponder uplink services to the Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. In 1978 the teleport commenced uplinking of WTCG Channel 17 Atlanta for national distribution into cable television systems. WTCG became WTBS"The Superstation"and full transponder services for this service continued until 1999. During that period Turner Broadcasting increased utilization of AIT's uplinking capabilities through orders placed and fulfilled to uplink CNN, CNN 2, and CNN Headline News on a fulltime basis. Additionally, AIT provided Turner Broadcasting with their first Transportable Earth Station for SNG which was operated and maintained by teleport personnel. Some notable satellite feeds providing live news coverage for CNN from the TES were The Mariel Boat Lift from Cuba, The Return of Hostages from Iran, and the first and all subsequent Space Shuttle Launches from Cape Kennedy, Florida. The quality of AIT's services were instrumental in making Turner the giant it is today in broadcasting. Since the early days, this teleport facility has grown into an antenna farm of fourteen antennae, three transmitter buildings, a Technical Operations Center/ Network Operations Center, a Data Center and Tier 2 ISP, and two generator buildings. AIT has successfully completed thousands of video feeds, both analog and digital, and provided radio broadcast services to a variety of clientele. Today the teleport is connected to the global telecommunications infrastructure through fiber (DS-3 to OC-192), Gigabit Ethernet, and copper (T-1/E-1), PRI, PSTN and POTS. Multi -gigabit connectivity is completely scalable via state of the art Ciena 5140 and Ciena 3930 service aggregation switches. AIT features a Vipersat V-Sat system that has served Military, Police, Fire Departments, First Responders, other Government Agencies, as well as Commercial and Industrial Enterprise applications. Full time international and domestic uplinking and downlinking services are easily implemented from this facility covering North America, Alaska and Hawaii, South America, Central America, Carribean, Europe, Africa and the Middle East. The teleport is a multiple use facility that encompasses all forms of communication. The facility is a major communications node for global communications and networking applications which include but are not limited to: cellular, wi-fi, microwave, CATV Headend, government and business radio, radio over IP, VoIP, WAN, LAN, BGAN, television and radio production and distribution, broadcast radio and television, IP streaming, IPTV, VPN's, cloud computing and storage, VSat, offshore and maritime applications, oil industry applications, disaster recovery operations, Tier 2 ISP services and much more.
