Founded in 1936, Contra Costa Water District serves an urban area of California with an emphasis on water treatment technology and source water protection. The district draws its water from the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta under a contract with the United States Central Valley Project. Its industrial customers include Teroso Refining and Marketing, Shell Oil, Southern Energy CA, GWF Power, Foster Wheeler, Dow Chemical Company, Calpine, General Chemical, Rhodia and USS Posco. The district also operates pump stations at the Old River and Mallard Slough intakes and the Los Vaqueros Transfer Facility, which pumps water into the Los Vaqueros Reservoir. The Contra Costa Water District delivers water to approximately 500,000 people in central and eastern Contra Costa County in Northern California.
