The San Diego County Flower & Plant Association is always looking for new members. Criteria 1: You are actively involved in the horticulture industry as a grower, wholesaler, broker, or shipper. Criteria 3: You are an educator, student, firm, or organization interested in supporting the industry. The San Diego County Flower & Plant Association provides its members with various resources that encourage productivity and success. Informational meetings keep members apprised of issues and concerns directly related to their operations, such as agricultural survival in urban areas, frost protection, water runoff and conservation, labor relations and energy savings. In addition, the Association acts as a liaison to The University of California Cooperative Extension and to other agricultural associations. Members are notified of significant events and newly released research. On behalf of the membership, our Association sends representative to state and local meetings to present our views on zoning, landscape, water and other agricultural issues. Several Association publications further education and promote networking. The annual Membership Directory and Buyer's Guide provides complete membership listings and product information and is distributed to the membership and the wholesale/retail trade nationwide. Second, a monthly newsletter keeps members current with a calendar of events and legislative updates. Educational opportunities provided by the Association include Pesticide Applicator Safety Training workshops that help members to maintain compliance with government regulations. Training and educational sessions on a variety of topics are held in conjunction with The University of California Cooperative Extension, California Ornamental Research Federation and San Diego County Department of Agriculture, Weights and Measures. Also, the San Diego County Flower & Plant Association provides scholarships to worthy local students interested in pursuing careers in horticulture.
